Privacy Policy

The short version

SoundProofTest is a set of articles. There is nothing to sign up for, nothing to log into, and no form to fill in. We set no cookies, we don't build a profile of you, and we don't track you from one website to another. The only thing we measure is how many people read which page, in aggregate.

The QuietScore iOS app is a separate product with its own, longer policy — see quietscore.app/privacy. Nothing on this website has access to anything you measure in the app.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It records which page was loaded, how quickly it loaded, the country the request came from, the general type of browser, and the site that linked you here. It does this without cookies, without storing anything on your device, and without fingerprinting — the technique that identifies a browser by its unique combination of settings. There is no identifier that follows you between visits, which is also why there is no consent banner on this site: there is nothing to consent to and nothing to switch off.

What we can see is that a page was read a certain number of times. What we cannot see is who read it, what else they read on another day, or anything that would let us pick one reader out of the total.

Links to the App Store

Our "Download QuietScore" links pass through a page on this site before opening the App Store. That step exists so we can count how many people clicked, and from where — it collects nothing else, and it does not identify you.

The App Store link itself carries a campaign tag identifying this website as the source. Apple reports that back to us as anonymous totals — how many people opened the App Store page and how many downloaded the app — and only once enough different people have used the link. Apple never tells us who any of them are. What happens once you reach the App Store is covered by Apple's privacy policy, not ours.

Cookies

This site sets none. Not for analytics, not for preferences, not for advertising. If you follow an affiliate link to a retailer, that retailer will set its own — see below.

Affiliate links

Some product pages carry affiliate links to retailers, disclosed on the page itself and explained in our affiliate disclosure. Following one hands you over to that retailer, who applies their own cookies and their own privacy policy from that point on. We are not told who clicked or what they bought — an affiliate programme reports back only that a referral from this site resulted in a sale, as a number.

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the technical details of each request — including your IP address — in order to deliver the page and to block attacks. We don't keep those records ourselves and don't use them to identify readers. Cloudflare's handling is covered by its own privacy policy.

If you email us

Writing to hello@soundprooftest.com means we have your email address and whatever you put in the message. We use it to reply and to fix what you told us about, and we don't add you to a mailing list — there isn't one. Ask us to delete the correspondence and we will.

Who else gets anything

Cloudflare, as host and as the analytics provider described above. Retailers you choose to visit through an affiliate link. Apple, if you follow a link to the App Store. That is the complete list. We don't sell data, we don't share it with advertisers, and there are no advertising networks, social media widgets, embedded videos, or externally hosted fonts anywhere on this site.

Your rights

Rights to access, correct or delete personal data — under the GDPR, the CCPA or similar laws — apply to data that identifies you. Browsing this site doesn't produce any, so in practice there is nothing held about you to request. The exception is email you've sent us, which we'll show you or delete on request. Children

This site publishes soundproofing guides for a general audience and isn't directed at children. We knowingly collect nothing from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If we start collecting something we don't collect today, this page changes first and the date at the top changes with it. Questions about any of it: hello@soundprooftest.com.
